Land contamination can occur from certain activities that result in substances within the soil and water that can cause harm to people, property or the environment. Remediation is the aim of restoring land to an acceptable condition by treating problems caused by contamination in soil and water.
Any developers and landowners purchasing a brownfield site would likely need remediation to facilitate their development. Private landowners and homeowners may need to undertake remediation if they unknowingly cause an environmental incident.
Most remediation schemes are required as part of planning permission. However, remediation is also needed for unforeseen incidents (such as diesel spills), permit surrenders or general environmental and ecological improvements.
Demcom believe that you don’t have to remediate a site by disposing of your soils in landfills. This is an outdated archaic approach to remediation. Demcom have the experience and expertise to make remediation sustainable. Retaining soils, treating them onsite, and cutting out all the lorry movements.
