Demcom Health & Safety Statement of Intent Summary

The company policy on the health and safety of Demcom Ltd, and all other Demcom companies, is issued in accordance with Section 2(3) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Demcom Ltd is committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of its employees, so far as reasonably practicable. The company also fully accepts its responsibility for other persons whose health and safety may be affected by our activities. We will take steps to ensure our statutory duties are met at all times to include the provision of adequate resources to protect both our employees and others who may be affected by our work activities.

The company realises the importance of co-operation and commitment from the workforce and the need for good communication at all levels in the company in order to maintain a positive health and safety culture. To that end, adequate facilities and arrangements will be maintained to enable employees to easily raise issues of Health and Safety, and each person will be made aware that they must act responsibly and do everything they can to prevent injury to themselves and/or others.

Demcom also recognises the importance of safe working practices and will comply with the following legislation:

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (as amended);

The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (as amended);

All other relevant legislation and regulations that may become applicable during the course of the Company’s activities.

Continual improvement will be achieved by effective implementation and adherence to the above regulations. Everyone working for Demcom is expected to support and promote this policy and comply with its requirements and duties.

Health & Safety Director

To help ensure Demcom implements their Health and Safety policy in an effective and practical manner, Demcom have their own in-house Health and Safety Director who has a wide variety of different Health and Safety qualifications, most notably he is NEBOSH certified in General Occupational Health and Safety.

Risk Assessment and Method Statements

For every project we undertake, a risk assessment and method statement are created and tailored specifically to the project’s requirements. These documents are put together with input from both our Health and Safety director and our independent Health and Safety consultants.

The risk assessment identifies any potential risks. Once each risk is identified, methods of minimising the risk are outlined and implemented. Through undertaking an effective risk assessment, the probability of accidents and injuries occurring are notably reduced. Thereby, significantly improving the safety of the project.

The method statement is a plan of how we will complete the project. The document identifies the most effective and safest ways of completing all the key elements of the project. Both of these documents are provided before any work commences on site. The two documents combined help ensure we complete all projects in a safe and effective manner.

Finally, we ensure that before any project starts a refurbishment and demolition survey is completed to identify any potential asbestos on site and how to deal with the asbestos in the most effective manner.

These are just a few of the things we do at Demcom to ensure everyone remains as safe as possible in every project we undertake.
