Asbestos Surveys and Sampling
An asbestos survey is an analysis of a property which identifies the type and location of asbestos in or around a property. An asbestos survey legally has to be completed by a fully trained and qualified asbestos surveyor. When conducting the survey, the surveyor will take samples of any materials which they suspect to contain asbestos. The samples are sent off to a lab to be tested. The lab will then inform the surveyor on what the material is, for example if it’s insulation board or sprayed coating. The lab also informs the surveyor about what type of asbestos is in the material, if it’s white, blue or brown asbestos.
The surveyor will then use this information to put together a report outlining the location and type of asbestos in or around the property, along with identifying the risks associated with the asbestos and how to minimise the risks. There are two types of asbestos survey which can be completed, they are a Management Survey and a Refurbishment and Demolition survey.
WHAT SURVEYS WE OFFER
Management Survey
A Management Survey is a non-intrusive asbestos survey. The surveyor will only take samples from what they can see while walking around the property. They won’t look above ceilings or under carpets for example.

Refurbishment and Demolition Survey
A Refurbishment and Demolition Survey (R&D Survey) is the most common type of asbestos survey. An R&D survey is a fully intrusive and comprehensive survey. The surveyor will search the whole property, looking under carpets and above ceilings to locate any potential asbestos.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
It is a legal requirement for a R&D survey to be completed before any planned demolition, refurbishment or significant maintenance is carried out on a property.
Demcom can provide both types of Surveys for you. In addition, if the survey identifies any asbestos, we can also remove the asbestos safely and professionally.
Asbestos Sampling
Demcom can also provide an asbestos sampling service, we can test a material to find out if it contains asbestos. This is always included in every survey we complete, but we also offer it as a stand-alone service.
If you think you require an asbestos survey or suspect there could be asbestos in or around your property, contact us today and we can advise you on the most appropriate action to take.
